A Study on the Development Process of Android Telephony System: A Case Study of A Incorporated
After Google introduced the open platform of Android and its related strategies into mobile communication industry, many manufactures were attracted to join the development. Therefore, less than 3 years since it came out, Android has rapidly become the dominant platform of smartphones as a counterweight to iOS. The telephony system is the core component of a mobile device. It takes charge of calls, messages (SMS/MMS), data connections, the phone book, and is also responsible for the functions used by SIM Toolkit. Therefore, telephony system is also the key technology for Android handset development. To improve code quality assurance and development efficiency, this thesis studies on both practical experiences and software engineering theories, and further provides a methodology as a standard process for developing telephony system on Android platform. A global brand firm, A Inc., is used as case study illustrations in this thesis. Its development environment and process are reviewed and some development issues are discussed. The case concludes up with beneficiaries of adopting the methodology in practices. Finally, the research result of this thesis would be expected as a useful reference for other development teams.
