A Study of Acidic aerosols in Ambient Air around the Science-based Industrial Park

In this paper, 13 porous metal denuders with was located at certain spots surrounding Science-Based Industrial Park (SBIP) to find the pollution situation of acidic aerosol around SBIP. Besides, a new atmospheric dispersion model ISCST3 was also used to predict the concentrations of acidic aerosol around SBIP as well as compare with the concentrations of denuders. The calculation of ISCST3 model is based on the emission information of manufactures, wind direction, wind velocity and temperature. From September 2000 to March 2001, most of the data of species concentrations were shown lower than the values of the related regulations of Taiwan except the concentration of 12.5μg/m3 and 11.3μg/m3 of total fluoride which was 10μg/m3 higher than the values of the related regulations of Taiwan. The main source of total fluoride is HF(g), which takes over 55% in total fluoride. Comparing the concentrations of denuders with these calculated by ISCST3 model, the calculated results of ISCST3 model were found more similar to the concentration data of denuders as wind velocity is high, however the similarity decreases as wind velocity decreases as well. The simulation results were about 1 to 95 times less than the concentration values of denuders. Two honeycomb denuders (HDS) and thirteen porous metal denuders were used in this study. It was found that the R2 value and p-value between HDS and denuder were higher than 0.94 and 0.05, respectively, which shows a good agreement.
