The Preform Design on the Forging of No.7 Iron Head

The main objective of this research is to study the perform design on the forging of Iron head in order to minimize the flash and reduce production cost. In the present study, the finite element code LS-DYNA3D had been combined with optimization code MOST to search for the optimum perform design on the forging of No.7 Iron head. The shape of perform cyclinder was characterized by its radius that was also treated as design variable. The minimum gap of dies after forging was chosen as the object function in order to find the suitable perform that can result in a minimum flash. An optimal value for the radius of the cylinder had been obtained through this research, and proposed new perform through this analysis had been verified by an addition simulation.
