An Experimental Study on Mining Pit Migration
The purpose of this study is to investigate the scouring and deposition behavior of the sand mining pits through a series of experiments. These results will then provide useful information for the channel mining operations. Dimensional analysis was performed and experiments were conducted accordingly. Several different boundary conditions, water discharges were used in the experiments. Based on the experimental results, empirical formulas for pit height and pit velocity were obtained. Besides these, the change of down boundary conditions in the experiments will not significantly influence the migration of the mining pit. The experiments were terminated till the filling up of the pits are reached.
