The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of the cognitive diversity oftop management team and the prospector propensity of business strategy on theinformation processing and the decision comprehensiveness of top management team. The second purpose of this research is to study the influence of information processingand decision comprehensiveness of top management on the product development performance. In addition, the interaction effects of environmental uncertainty and information processing and of environmental uncertainty and comprehensiveness arealso investigated. The top one-thousand manufacturing companies in Taiwan were used as the targetof sampling for data collection. Questionnaires were directed to the top manager of each company. Statistical analyses were performed for hypothesis testing. The results of the study indicates that the cognitive diversity of top managementteam has a negative effect on the top managers' effort devoted to information processing work and the comprehensiveness of their decision making. The prospectiorpropensity of business strategy has no impact on top managers' information processingwork. However, it does have a negative effect on the comprehensiveness of top management team's decision making. Besides, the information processing and decisioncomprehenvsiveness have a positive influence on the product development performance. The interaction effects of these two factors with environmental uncertainty on productdevelopment performance are not significant. Explanations to the above findings are provided at the end of this thesis. Thetheoretical and managerial implications are also derived based on the results of thestudy.
