Exploring Development Strategies of Taiwanese Microcontroller Industry

The research identified the dimensions and factors of the new product development processes by literature analysis. Based on the literature analysis and expert interviews, expert questionnaires were created and were distributed to the expert of Taiwanese microcontroller related industry. By calculating mode, mean and standard deviation, the statistics results were transformed into quality messages which were divided into high, the second highest, medium, low and very low, five levels, indicating that the index in the whole system the appropriate status. And then an appropriate new product development strategy and strategy factors could be organized when the feedback from the questionnaires came to the consensus. At last, rank the strategy factors by the importance of the findings. According to the results of this research, to check from market dimension, a new product development and strategic planning model should focus on the strengthening market, and, from technology dimension, focus on new technology. The factors of new product development strategies are ranked as following: the value of the product, safety regulations, research and development technology, operation, development costs , R&D personnel, government policy, manufacturing, corporate image, environmental protection and culture. Based on the results of this research, the micro-controller suppliers of Taiwan are able to adopt a most suitable new product development strategy to build a barrier from competition and keep the company at a profitable status.
